Best Beauty Discoveries 2022 | Haircare

Last up in my best beauty discoveries of 2022 is the haircare category and I have quite a few this year! I have long brown hair with dry end and oily roots, and I really try to protect my hair as best as possible as I use heat so here are the products that have stood out to me this year!

haircare favourites 2022

As a huge fan of the bum bum bodycare scent I had to pick up Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Joia Milky Leave In Conditioner RRP £28 when it launched earlier this year! It smells exactly like the rest of the line but it’s not overpowering at all. I love the trigger mechanism and the formula itself is thicker than I was expecting but not heavy at all. It offers heat protection up to 232˚C, frizz control and helps prevent split ends and is a huge 210ml! It’s the best detangler I have used and makes my hair so soft and smooth! See my full review here!

I finally gave in and bought the Living Proof PhD Dry Shampoo RRP £20 and let me tell you, the hype is real. This is a lot pricier than my usual budget dry shampoos, but it is the best I have tried! It leaves no white cast, absorbs easily giving me an extra day or two out of my greasy hair and actually makes it look clean. Some dry shampoos only last a few hours before my hair starts looking greasy again and I need to reapply, but this works so well and I use far less product! As well as making my hair look clean again it also gives a bit of lift which is perfect as my hair can look lank when greasy and it has a really subtle fresh scent. There is no residue and I love this so much I just bought three sets from Sephora when it was on sale!

Sticking with Living Proof, and I received their Triple Bond Complex RRP £42* at the end of summer and famous last words, but I think I prefer it as a repair treatment to Olaplex! This is a weekly treatment that you apply to damp hair after washing and leave in - it works to construct new bonds within the hair to help strengthen it as well as protect it and the look of split ends are visibly reduced. It also offers heat protection up to 232˚C to help prevent future breakage. It’s a silicone-free, serum consistency and leaves my hair feeling protected, smooth and manageable with a good shine and I have noticed my ends looking way healthier with less split ends even when my hair is overdue a trim!

I am a sucker for a scalp scrub and the Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal and Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo RRP $54* has really impressed me! As I was rubbing this into my scalp the first time I used it, I was convinced my hair was still going to be greasy and that it was not going to clean it as there is no lather (it’s sulphate free) but I couldn’t have been more wrong! The exfoliant is very fine and this made my hair look and feel the cleanest it’s ever been! My scalp, while still being oily has also been flaking on me this winter and this shampoo really refreshes and balances it without drying it out while getting rid of flakes! As well as charcoal and coconut oil, this contains peppermint, spearmint and tea tree oil to help reduce itchiness and it gives it a really light minty scent!

I love a good hair mask and the Kerastase Nutritive Masquintense Thick Hair Mask RRP £36.60* might be one of the best I have tried! It smells incredible and as it’s for thick hair it’s super concentrated so a little goes a long way in my fine hair! I like to leave it on 15-20 minutes before rinsing out and it leaves my hair soft, smooth, shiny and the ends well hydrated which makes them look so much healthier! Despite my hair not being thick, it rinses out well and doesn’t leave it feeling weighed down. It’s a huge 200ml too and is lasting me ages despite using it regularly! See my full Kerastase Nutritive range review here!

Lastly, The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum RRP $15.80 has really helped the condition of my lashes and brows! Since using this, I have noticed way less fall out in both areas and they are both looking much fuller! I’ve never tried a lash/brow serum before this aside from castor oil and I don’t see myself trying any others as this is so affordable and works! You do need to be in a good routine using it every day to see results but much like the hair density serum I included in last year’s haircare discoveries this is another win for The Ordinary!

Best Beauty Discoveries 2022 | Makeup

best makeup products 2022

After last week’s best skincare discoveries of 2022, this week it’s the turn of my favourite makeup discoveries! Some of these I bought towards the end of 2021 but as always, it takes me so long to actually use them, it was 2022 before they came into their own! It’s always risky buying without having seen or swatched the product in person but I did my research and also got lucky as everything I’m talking about today, I bought this way!

Starting with bronzers and the Victoria Beckham Matte Bronzing Brick in 02 Soleil | Honey RRP £52 has easily made its way to the top of my favourite bronzer list. This is a weighty compact with a matte duo inside and it has the perfect amount of pigmentation. I mix the two together and it blends like a dream, instantly adds a natural warmth to my face without any patchiness and it lasts all day with no fading. The only thing that annoys me about it is the packaging which has a tendency to pop open, and it can be quite difficult to close but I’ll forgive it because it has such a beautiful formula!

victoria beckham dior bronzer

Sticking with bronzers and a very close second is the Dior Forever Natural Bronze in 04 Tan Bronze RRP £41. Like the VB, this has just the right amount of pigmentation and isn’t powdery at all. The packaging is lighter than the VB so easier to travel with and I would say I prefer the shade of the VB just a touch as I can customise it but I reach for this so much too!

Onto foundation now, and the NARS Light Reflecting Foundation in Gobi RRP £37.50 was a standout for me this year! It has a thin consistency but offers medium coverage, feels lightweight on the skin and is easily buildable, and leaves a very perfecting base. The formula is a mix of makeup and skincare and supposedly helps improve skins clarity and texture over time and I have been impressed with how long this wears on my skin! I haven’t found it to separate, and it’s been lasting a full day on my normal/combo skin! My skin looks more luminous when I use this, it covers minor imperfections well and gives me a healthy glow! Definitely my favourite NARS foundation out of the three I have tried! See my full review here!

Lip products next and I have a few to share! The first being the Dior Addict Lip Glow in 012 Rosewood RRP £30 and it was definitely a case of Instagram made me buy it but I’m glad I did! Tinted lip balms are my jam and this is definitely the fanciest one I own! Aside from beautiful packaging, the product inside is a lovely "my lips but better" sheer rosy nude shade. It's infused with colour-reviver technology that adapts to the pH level of lips to reveal a custom glow which was why I specifically didn’t go with the original pink shade as pH lip products tend to go bright pink on me! Rosewood is perfect though and the formula is beautiful, it lasts on my lips for a good few hours before I feel the need to reapply!

clarins lip oil honey review

clarins lip comfort oil honey review

The Clarins Lip Comfort Oil in 01 Honey RRP £21.50 has featured on the blog before in mini form, but I loved it so much I had to get a full size! It feels silky and not sticky at all while lasting a surprisingly long time on my lips keeping them comfortable and hydrated for hours. It gives a beautiful shine, contains omega 6 and 9, rose oil and jojoba oil and comes in a bunch of shades and I just got the Christmas mini 4 pack to try some more shades too!

hourglass phantom volumizing glossy balm review slip

Lastly, in the lip category I have the Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in Slip RRP £28. Not my favourite packaging mechanism (you can’t wind the product back down) but the product itself is beautiful! These are super glossy but not sticky and the colour is buildable. Again, they last quite a while on my lips and while I don’t find the plumping/volumizing aspect too much, they do make my lips look fuller! Would definitely consider picking up a few more shades if I saw these on offer again!

pat mcgrath divine rose blush review

I purchased a few blushes this year but way out in front is the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Divine Blush in Divine Rose RRP £30. This is described as a cool mauve rose demi matte and I honestly think this might be my favourite blush in my collection. As well as having the most beautiful imprint, I love the shade (I tend to prefer matte products), the pigmentation is perfect, it’s easily blendable, looks so natural and it has great lasting powder. I also have the shade Nymphette which I like but I love this one! Really want to try the blush duos too!

Finally, the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Blurring Under Eye Powder in Light RRP £25 has really impressed me. This is so lightweight yet it sets my under eye so it never looks powdery or dry. It’s so finely milled and blurring and barely detectable!

And that’s my 2022 best makeup discoveries! I bought everything here when it was on sale or the website had a good offer running as I hate paying full price! These are all pricey items so definitely shop around or wait until you see a good deal if you are planning a splurge and want to save some money! Do you see any of your favoruites? Let me know what makeup products stood out to you this year!

Best Beauty Discoveries 2022 | Skincare

Happy New Year! I have a quick little series on my best beauty discoveries from last year coming so will get makeup and haircare up soon but first, my skincare picks! I usually also have body care but I didn’t try many new things this year so my old favourites are the same! As always, these aren’t necessarily all new releases but they were new to me this year!

2022 best skincare

Starting with cleansers, and I have really been enjoying the Dear Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil RRP $30 as a first cleanse. It spreads easily, removes makeup with ease, emulsifies, doesn’t sting my eyes and is affordable! I don’t get any scent from it and it leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated with no film left behind! For my second cleanse or morning cleanse, I have been reaching for the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser RRP £43*. This one lightly lathers and feels gentle despite containing physical as well as chemical exfoliants and has really been helping to keep my skin smooth and give me a good base for the rest of my skincare and makeup application!

charlotte tilbury glow toner review

Toner wise, the Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner RRP £40* really stood out to me. It’s a lovely, thick, milky formula that my skin has been drinking up! It is acid free and contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides and ingredients to exfoliate and help minimise the look of pores. My skin looks smooth and plump while using this and it’s definitely made me want to try more CT skincare! See more in my Summer Standouts post here!

Moving onto serums and the Bondi Sands Skincare Thirsty Skin Hyaluronic Acid RRP £8.99* was my favourite HA this year. It’s a gel formula so a little thicker than a standard serum and it spreads easily over my skin leaving it feeling soft and supple, locking in moisture and plumping and filling out my fine lines! As well as HA, it also contains glycerin and it has a great price and cute packaging, definitely one to try! See my full review here!

I’ve also really enjoyed the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence RRP £24 for hydration as well. Since moving back to Canada that’s been top of my skincare needs list! This has an interesting texture that looks like it’s going to be sticky but it’s not at all. While I wouldn’t quite put it into the cult status as a lot of people have, it is a great hydrator and smoother and I have really appreciated having it in my routine this winter!

The Theramid Ceramide Treatment RRP $52* is a thick serum that contains ceramides, antioxidants, cica and glycerin and has been a perfect buffer for me under retinol keeping my skin hydrated and protected! It provides extra comfort to my skin in winter and I am so impressed with this brand, I will do a full review on the products I was sent soon but this one is the standout!

The Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum RRP £82* is probably my favourite skincare find of this year! Initially, I was worried about the addition of glycolic acid in case it caused irritation but I’m happy to say it hasn’t. This is a powerhouse antioxidant serum and after struggling with Vitamin C formulas that help brighten but don’t do much for specific areas of pigmentation, this worked better than I thought possible. The inclusion of glycolic acid gently exfoliates, making my skin smoother and helping ensure effective Vitamin C delivery. The Vitamin C in question is L-ascorbic acid, known for being the most effective as well! The serum itself has a light citrus scent and absorbs quickly and I have noticed stubborn pigmentation really lifting with consistent use! My skin is also much brighter and more even and despite being the priciest of the items I am featuring today it really has made a difference and my first bottle lasted months, so I think it’s worth the investment! Read more here!

Onto moisturisers and The Inkey List Omega Water Cream RRP $14.49* was my summer moisturiser of choice! It’s a lightweight, water-based gel that contains three omegas to help prevent water loss as well as glycerin and niacinamide. It sinks in quickly leaving no white residue behind (I’m looking at you Vitmain B, C and E moisturiser), works well under makeup and my skin feels hydrated all day long. Definitely the best moisturiser The Inkey List do! Read moreabout it here!

Something a bit heavier now and the Murad Intense Recovery Cream RRP £78* is my nightly moisturiser of choice this year! It is the ultimate comfort blanket for stressed out, dehydrated, sensitive skin and contains shea better, macadamia oil and microalgae extract to provide deep moisturisation and smooth the look of stress lines as well as reducing redness and irritation. My skin was really playing up at the start of last year and was red, inflamed, itchy and flaky and this came to the rescue! It feels instantly soothing on stressed skin and is so comforting! It reduced my redness as well as hydrating my skin and getting it back to normal. It feels like more of a balm than a cream and it melts into skin keeping it hydrated and protected overnight, a must have for sensitive skin!

Finally, my favourite SPF of last year was the Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 RRP £66*. This is a mineral sunscreen that shields against UVA, UVB, pollution and digital blue light damage. The formula is lightweight and has a peachy tint that is easily worked into the skin leaving no white cast (I have pale skin for reference). It sits well over the rest of my skincare as well as under makeup and I love that its SPF 50, my skin feels protected and the formula is beautiful, I haven’t found any difficulty rubbing in or pilling issues either! Read more here!

So that brings us to the end of my best skincare discoveries of this year! Did you see any of your favoruites? Let me know what products you loved this year!
