A few months ago I was lucky enough to be sent the PMD* to try out and
after six weeks of use I’m ready to share my thoughts! I have quite a lot of
hang-ups about my skin as I used to have acne so I've got quite a lot of
scarring. This mainly affects how even my skin is more so than pigmentation as
I had laser treatment last year for that so microdermabrasion has been on my radar
for quite a while! My skin is also oily but dehydrated and can get quite
congested around the sides of my nose and my chin! I’m happy with my skincare
routine at the minute but always have room for something to give my skin the
little somethin’ somethin’ it needs! Spoiler alert – I think the PMD is doing
just that!
The device comes with everything you need to perform microdermabrasion
at home and inside the box is:
·
A PMD with
training disc and plastic cap already attached
·
Electric plug and
3 adapters
·
3 face discs and
3 body discs
·
Plastic cap for
body discs
Also included is an informative booklet and a short DVD that explains
how to use the PMD properly and what to expect from continued use. Using the
PMD on a regular basis will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
and light scarring. It will also improve overall skin tone and texture by
fading uneven pigmentation, sun damage, age spots and blemishes. It addition,
it helps to reduce the formation of acne scars as it helps clear out clogged
pores and release trapped dirt and oil leaving skin clearer and more vibrant. Sounds
good doesn’t it?
The discs have aluminium oxide crystals on their surface which spin to
exfoliate away the dead, dull skin cells on the surface of the skin. As the
epidermis is removed, new cell growth is stimulated and topical products
penetrate faster, maximising the benefits of the skincare products you are
using!
The instructions and DVD give a brilliant run down of the dos and don’ts
when using the advice but some of the main ones I thought were worth mentioning
are: it’s important to use the device on clean, dry skin so it doesn’t drag and
to use upward motions while pulling the skin taut. Take care not to go over the
same area twice in the same session or hover in the same spot and don’t press
down too hard with the disc. Don’t use the device on the area above the
cheekbone near your eyes and never use without the cover in place. Give your
skin 6-7 days to recover after using the device and make sure to wear sunscreen!
It’s also important to refrain from using any chemical exfoliants for 48 hours
before or after using the PMD as skin will be too sensitive and make sure and
seek approval from your doctor if you are on any prescriptions for skin issues.
I've been using the device once a week for the last six weeks, starting
like the instructions suggest, with the white trainer disc which comes already inserted
into the device and is the least coarse to see how my skin would react. The
sensation of the device is a little like if you take the foot off a vacuum
cleaner and hold it to your hand, just on a smaller scale! This suction pulls
the blood flow to the surface of the skin (and you will feel it and skin will
look a little red!) and triggers the body’s healing process, building collagen
and elastin and leaving the skin firm and radiant.
I then progressed onto the grey disc which is for very sensitive skin
then the blue disc which is for sensitive skin and now for the last three weeks
I have been using the green disc which is medium strength abrasion and I have
been loving the results! I generally use the device on my forehead and temples,
round my nose, chin and some areas on my cheeks and have noticed such a
difference in my skin! It is so much smoother, more even and feels nowhere near
as clogged around my nose or chin! My skincare products feel like they have
been getting absorbed more effectively and in the morning my skin looks so much
brighter and clearer! I've also been enjoying using the body discs on my elbows
although it can be a little fiddly and more difficult to get the PMD to stay
suctioned on to move around!
I have absolutely loved using this device; at £150 it’s not cheap but
when compared to the cost of professional microdermabrasion treatments offered
in salons it seems so much more of an investment! I’m so grateful for the
opportunity to have tried it and will certainly be purchasing the replacement heads
which are £19 regularly to make sure I keep getting the best treatment possible
as the aluminium oxide crystals that provide the exfoliation wear off after
continued use and hope to see even more of an improvement in my skin tone and texture!
The PMD Personal
Microderm can be purchased from the PMD website, Harrods, and CurrentBody
Have you tried this device or microdermabrasion before? What did you
think?

this looks great! my nose and chin are definitely troublesome and would benefit from this

It's done wonders for mine! Xx
DeleteWould love to give this a go! While it's expensive, I imagine it's much more pricier to get the treatment done by someone else!
ReplyDeleteMusings & More
That's what I think too! And now I have no need to go for a treatment! Xx
DeleteThis looks really cool! I have a few scars too, glad to see it is working.

My skin is so much smoother after I use it! Love it! Xx
DeleteI have never tried, but I love how companies are making it easy for you to do at home.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.racheldinh.com
So good being above to do it from the comfort of your own home and regularly too! Xx
DeleteI really d to try this kind of device in the past but the price put me off buying it. Now I'm quite happy with my skincare routine and the chemical exfoliants I've been using have improved my skin's appearance significantly so I'm not sure if I'd go for the microdermabrasion as it seems more harsh then acid peels. But it's definitely a great option for those wanting it as it works out much cheaper in the long term then having it done in the beauty salon. x
ReplyDeleteMummy’s Beauty Corner
Totally understand where you are coming from! I love chemical exfoliants too and thought I would miss them a lot more only using this once a week for 6 weeks but the results are so long lasting I haven't! I haven't found it harsh either! Will be reintroducing chemical exfoliants now though :) xx
DeleteI haven't tried such a device before but it's certainly intriguing! Although I don't have oily skin myself so I don't know often I would use it, but I would love to hear about your experience with laser treatment :)
ReplyDeleteVelvet Blush
Thanks lady! Don't know if I will ever do a post on it but it definitely helped my pigmentation which was awful after years of acne! Loving this for evening out my skin tone now! Xx
DeleteI had no idea you could even get at-home versions of this, but now I do I want one desperately! Glad you're having such good results :)

Thanks Claire! It such a great little device! Xx
DeleteI 'm a little bit skeptical with this kind of tools but this one seems very good and effective!

I usually am too! Been totally proven wrong with this though, it works so well with my skin! Xx
DeleteI wanted to try something like this but it worries me to do something like this by myself at home. And yes, the price is another factor which put me off. I think my skin is pretty good for now but I will keep this in mind for future.
ReplyDeleteShireen | Reflection of Sanity
I think it's great that it comes with so many different types of discs so you can test it on your skin and see what works best for you but I totally understand it's a lot of money to part with if you're not completely sure! Xx
DeleteThis sounds amazing and yet scary at the same time! I'm slightly terrified at using something like this on my skin, I'm accident prone and forgetful at times so I'm not sure this is something for me. I also have sensitive skin so I imagine it's not really going to work out well. Which is a shame because I am having trouble with blackheads and clogged pores right now.

I was a little apprehensive when I first tried it too but the different discs are great to test your skins tolerance! I've got into a little routine of doing it on a Friday night before going to bed! Xx
DeleteI'd love to try something like this! The price tag is the only thing that puts me off xx
ReplyDeleteBeautylymin
It would put me off too if I had never tried anything like it! Can be so hard to know how your skin will react to something new! Xx
DeleteThis sounds so good, I absolutely hate my uneven skin tone so I'd love to try this!
ReplyDeleteLauren Ashleigh xx
I'm loving it! Xx
DeleteI had professional microdermabrasion for a good few months and absolutely loved the results but I had to stop because it was around £16 for 5 minutes, a bit expensive I know, so this post couldn't have been more perfect. Definitley going to have to do more research into this, and will probably end up purchasing haha ♥

Wow I had no idea it was that expensive! Their website is really good too and shows before and afters and has some more information! Xx

Thank you! Xx
DeleteI'd be scared to use a machine like this and even the thought of going for a professional treatment is a little bit off putting, but I guess it's because I have a completely different skin type to yours. It's great to hear that it's working for you and you are having such great results :) x
ReplyDeleteBeauty with charm
I know what you mean! You probably wouldn't need something as heavy duty as this but for my skin it's been working wonders! Xx
DeleteAside from the off putting price point, this does seem like a good product to give a try, and it seems worth it. I've not tried this so thanks for the review. Glad that you like it.
ReplyDeleteParis Street Style
Thank you! Yep it's expensive but having got the chance to try it out I definitely think it's worth the money! Xx
DeleteI love using mine, have definitely noticed a difference! x
ReplyDeleteEvelyn @ We Were Raised By Wolves
So glad you like it too Evelyn! Xx
DeleteI used another at-home microdermabrasion and while it worked great, it was quite bulky. This one looks so nice and compact.

Thirteen Thoughts
So compact! Fits nicely in the box and so easy to store! Xx
DeleteI've never use something like this but I'm curious! Hope it can work on my sensitive skin! xx
ReplyDeleteaishettina.blogspot.it
If you decide to give it a go just do a patch test to see how your skin reacts :) xx
DeleteI haven't tried any microdermabrasion treatments actually! Just because I've been quite scared that it would break my skin out and then take ages to repair. But this sounds really cool and I'm still very curious to try one out. I like the idea that it can be done in the comfort of your own home too.:D

I've never tried it but I remember your review and the results looks great! Xx
DeleteThis sounds so cooL! definitely worth it rather than going to the salon each time!
ReplyDeleteMacarons and Mischief
100%! So handy being able to do it yourself! Xx
DeleteThis sounds really good and it sounds like something I would love. I love that it's an at home treatment as well, I love the thought of not having to go out to get microderm!
ReplyDeletewww.thesundaymode.blogspot.com.au
Me too! I love not having to wait for an appointment! Xx
DeleteI was also offered to try this product and although it sounds like it achieves great results, I declined because of the presence of aluminium on the disks (if I remember correctly). Such a shame as I love exfoliating devices. x
ReplyDeleteRenata | Speaking Beauty UK
Yes, aluminium oxide crystals! I haven't had any side effects using it and wasn't aware of any potential dangers! Xx
DeleteSounds great! I have very sensitive skin and I`m afraid of using these type of products, but who knows, they might work without causing me problems. I`m glad you liked it and that it made your skin better.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.beautynerd.co.uk
Thanks Georgiana! My skin can be sensitive one day and tough as nails the next but it's reacted really well to this! They reccommend testing it on a patch of skin not on your face first! Xx
