Good afternoon everyone! I have a little update today on some recent
purchases I’ve made relating to the wishlist I posted a few months ago! The
wishlist is here and you can see what I’ve picked up from it!
Top Row - Vanilla, Banana, Sand Bottom Row - Java, Fawn, Havana |
Anastasia Beverly Hills Light to Medium
Contour Kit
I was lusting after this for the longest time and I kicked myself when
I didn’t buy it with a 15% discount code Cult Beauty had! However about a week
later I got another 15% off code and so I had to make it mine! To be completely
honest though I haven’t used this as much as I thought I would and when I do I
seem to stick to the two same shades!
The shades Java and Havana (bottom left and right) look a lot more red
toned to me in person than they are coming up on camera and I’m a bit scared of
them to be honest, I do love Fawn though but I don’t think it’s any better than
my usual contour colour of choice – Taupe by NYX!
The other shade I've been using is Banana as a setting powder for under
my eyes but I’ve been a bit disappointed too. I don’t find it sets my powder
particularly well and I don’t think it’s overly brightening either! I still prefer
to use the mini powder in my Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer for setting under
my eyes! I also used the highlight shade Sand a few weeks ago at a wedding and
was shocked by how chunky and glittery it looked after a few hours wear so I've
steered away from it since!
L-R - Vanilla, Banana, Sand, Java, Fawn, Havana |
Overall, I’m a little disappointed with this product and even more
disappointed in myself for giving into the hype (jokes, it was for the blog
obvs)! If you have any tips for how I can use this better or videos that show
people using all the shades then link me up please! I think my disappointment
is due to my crappy makeup skills more so than the product itself as you can
see from the swatches it is lovely and pigmented! I definitely don’t think this
palette is a must have though!
Urban Decay De-Slick Make Up Setting
Spray
I actually bought this as part of the Selfridges Summer Beauty Box as
there were a few other things in it that I wanted too! I was so excited to try
this as I had read a lot of reviews saying how it helped makeup stay in place
and keep oil at bay. However, I am so disappointed with this! I use this at the
very end of my makeup routine and do the “T” and “X” motion with the spray but
round lunchtime my face looks oily as usual, especially at the sides of my
nose.
This feels nice and refreshing and it’s not making my makeup any worse
by spraying over it but I’m just not impressed! If anyone has any tips on how
to make it work better please let me know! I’m thinking maybe spraying then
patting into my skin with my fingers might help? I've also heard that the
All-Nighter is better so maybe I should try it next time?
Clinique Pop Lip Colour Primer in Melon
Pop
This is my most recent purchase made all the sweeter by the fact I
bought it with my Boots points! I swatched a few other colours while I was at
the stand like Beige Pop and Colour Pop but as I suspected, Melon Pop just
stood out for me! This lipstick is really moisturising and gives me a lovely
light coral tint to my lips. I don’t find it lasts any longer on me even though
it’s meant to have a primer in it but it’s easy to touch up on the go!
To be completely honest I don’t think I would fork out £16 for another
one though! My favourite lipstick Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Lover’s
Coral gives me a similar colour and is half the price!
So there we go, a slightly disappointing high-ish end haul! I feel a
bit bad being so down on the Anastasia Palette in particular but I’m not
getting as much use out of the shades as I thought I would have! Do you own any
of these products? What do you think?
I would use the contour kit as eyeshadows too, perfect for autumn?
ReplyDeleteAnd have you tried using the spray before your makeup like a primer? Or try also mixing it a little with your foundation, ie. put some foundation on the back of your hand and one spray of it on top, mix and apply. I do that with All nighter spray and it works wonders!! And spray on your lips, blot, apply lipstick, spray and blot again. Works really well for me ;) let me know how you get on!

Thank you Pam! I will try all of the above! I never thought of using the Anastasia palette as eyeshadows, probably because I already have so many but I love this idea and will definitely try the spray trick too! Xx
DeleteHate when you're dying to try something and it disappointing you! That lipstick shade is beaut though- Great post x
ReplyDeleteClaire | www.claire-frances.blogspot.co.uk
I know! Sometime hype takes over! The lipstick is lovely! Xx
DeleteWhat a shame about the contour kit! I've never tried any of the UD setting sprays, but I've heard good things about the All Nighter, so maybe it's better!
ReplyDeleteShe Likes to Shop
I'm kicking myself now haha looks like I will be ordering All-nighter next! Xx
DeleteWow, you're the first person I've met who didn't like the UD setting spray!! I have All-Nighter and consider it a must have to my routine. It extends the life of my makeup like no other. But if you don't like UD's line try Fix Plus from MAC or the primer water from Smashbox!
ReplyDeleteZ · HELLOZAUNI.COM
Maybe it's because it's deslick? But I though it was meant to be good for oily skin! Oh well I might just have to try All-Nighter now too! Or the others you have mentioned! Thanks! Xx
DeleteSuch stunning shades but it's a shame about the setting spray! I was going to try it out too.
ReplyDeleteAnika | www.anikamay.co.uk
I think All-Nighter might be the way to go! Xx
DeleteI've been debating getting the Anastasia's contour kit for ages! But, I'm so worried I'd rarely use it so I've steered clear so far. Currently I've got my eye on MAC's Soft&Gentle---it looks like the perfect highlight <3
ReplyDeletexxx
She Will Be
I defintely didn't need it! I'm not much of a highlight person but I've heard such good things about that one! Xx
DeleteIt's a shame you're a bit disappointed with your purchases. But it happens to me as well that the products I was lusting over for a long time don't live up to the expectations. Melon Pop looks lovely, I have Nude Pop and it has been my most used lipstick since I got it :) x
ReplyDeleteMummy’s Beauty Corner
Ooh I don't think I looked at that one, might have to save my points up again :P xx
DeleteSorry you found those products disappointing. It's always annoying when things don't live up to their hype.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.beewritesx.blogspot.com
Tell me about it! It doesn't matter how much research we do before, sometimes we just don't get on with a product! Xx
DeleteOh..... make up..... Love this!

Thank you! Xx
DeleteI really like the colour of your lipstick, and I think "melon pop" is a super cute name (though not a reason to buy a product haha!) That also is too bad about how expensive it is, that is kind of a lot for a lipstick you could find a dupe for!
ReplyDeleteBree || The Urban Umbrella
Yeah I'm so glad I got it with my points so it was guilt free! Xx
DeleteAh I hate it when something just doesn't live up to the hype - I was dying to try the UD setting spray and had the same issues with it you did!
ReplyDeleteHannah Rose
I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I want to try all-nighter now though haha wishlist is neverending! Xx
DeleteUD Setting Spray is da bomb!
ReplyDeleteEmily x

Which one do you have? De-slick didn't work for me unfortunately :( xx
DeleteOMG that contour kit is so beautiful! I love UD's All-Nighter, it works great for me and I really feel like it helps my makeup last much, much longer, definitely give it a try!
ReplyDeletePaula
Thirteen Thoughts
It's so pretty! Aw I definitely will, curiosity will get the better of me! Xx
DeleteThe contour palette is beautiful! I am so jealous! Amazing you got 15% off x
ReplyDeleteMapped Out | Fashion, Beauty, Lifestyle
Always easier to splurge with a discount! Xx
DeleteI'm desperate for the Urban Decay Setting Spray! I've wanted a spray that works for ages now (I've used MUA, Elf, Avon and even Smashbox but none worked for me)! x
ReplyDeletehttp://whiteshirtchic.blogspot.co.uk/
I think based on this and what other people have told me, go with the All-nighter spray! Xx
DeleteSuch a shame about these products, especially when you splash out on something high end!
ReplyDeleteLillies and Lipbalm
xx
I know! I'm sure it won't stop me splashing out in the future though! Xx
DeleteIt's such a shame that you don't get on with any of these products after lusting over them! Even more disappointing when theyre high-end products which made you part with your dollar! I use the All Nighter setting spray and could honestly not go without it now. I moisturise, then apply my foundation and concealer and finish with transparent setting powder, and then I spray in the X and T formation and my makeup lasts all day! I've put the ABH cream contour kit on my bday list (my birthday is on Monday!) so wonder if that's any easier to work with? I think it takes some time to get to grips with any contour kit though!xx
ReplyDeleteLaura | Lala London: Beauty & Lifestyle
Yeah tell me about it, the contour palette and lipstick are lovely products I just don't think I'm getting the best use out of the contour palette! Really disappointed with the de-slick spray though so I might have to give all-nighter a go to see how they compare! Xx
DeleteThanks! Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!! I've been debating picking up the contour palette!

Thanks for reading :) xx
DeleteI nominated you for the Liebster Award, check out my blog to see more about it! I also love your blog!!xx
ReplyDeletehttp://www.kalablondiexo.blogspot.co.uk
Aw thank you so much! Xx
DeleteWhat a shame so many of these products let you down! I liked the UD setting spray, especially on holiday but I never caved into the ABH contour kit hype as it's just too pricey for someone who contours rarely xx
ReplyDeleteJasmine Talks Beauty | High-End Palette Giveaway
I admire your self-control! I think I will have to give All-Nighter a go as a few people have mentioned they find it better than De-Slick! Xx
DeleteI too use my contour shades as eyeshadows! Haha :) it makes the whole look seem together (know what I mean?lol)
ReplyDeleteThe lipstick looks great! :)

Xoxo Jessy
I will definitely be giving that a go! Xx
DeleteI have heard a lot of good things about the colourpop lipsticks! I guess they are too hyped about!
ReplyDeleteSarah | sarahanne14.blogspot.com
It's such a lovely colour, pity it didn't last longer on me! Xx
DeleteI heard many good things about the UD setting spray (: I might give it a try too
ReplyDeleteNati xx

I think I will be trying the All-nighter next time as De-slick is just not working with my skin! Xx
DeleteToo bad you didn't like those products! I really like the banana shade on the ABH Contour Kit but you're right, those two other shades are pretty mucho useless. I also have Melon Pop, it's one of my favorite go-to lip colors, such a lovely shade <3
ReplyDelete| www.noirettediary.com |
I agree, it's lovely! Xx
DeleteAwh, its a shame when you want products for so long and they end up being disappointing! I haven't tried any of these yet but I loooove the color of Melon Pop so I'll definitely have to check out the Revlon dupe instead, its such a pretty shade :} I've also been pretty intrigued by all the hype around the Anastasia Contour Kit but I'm glad I've been holding off now, I just couldn't see myself using it very often for how pricey it is :(
ReplyDeleteeightbitbeauty.blogspot.com
Yup it's definitely not an essential! The Revlon lipstick is the best lipstick ever! It's nothing like the Clinique one in consistency but for a peachy pink sheer colour it's perfect :) xx
DeleteI'm happy you were able to purchase these items from your wishlist and sad to hear the setting spray did not work well. That is actually on my wish list too since I have very oily skin, but after your review, I won't be getting it! I'll have to do some research on other ones to try!
ReplyDeletexoxo Emily

Let me know if you find a good one! I think All-Nighter is coming out on top based on the comments :) xx
DeleteI love UD setting sprays, I usually go for the All Nighter option. The shade in the Anastasia Contour palette look amazing don't they but I do wonder just how many of the shades I would actually use up x
ReplyDeleteBeauty with charm
I think I will have to give All-Nighter a go and see if it's any better on my skin! Xx
DeleteAhh I want the contour kit! Looks fab! x
ReplyDeleteTOUCHOFGUCCI // BLOGLOVIN
It's such a lovely kit, I wish I could get more use out of it! Xx
DeleteI'm so glad I read this post Danielle! I have been lusting after the contour palette too but now I think I'll just save my money, thanks for the review :)
ReplyDeleteGillian from Glam Up Everyday x
Thanks Gillian! Being disappointed with this hasn't stopped me lusting after the Too Faced Cocoa Contour palette or the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette though haha I will never learn! Xx
DeleteI have two of the clinique pop lipsticks and I really like them x
ReplyDeleteHeather | Of Beauty & Nothingness x
They are lovely! Really like the packaging too! Xx
DeleteI bought the ABH contour kit but I'm a really big fan of it. I'd recommend watching Carli Babel on YouTube as she sometimes uses the kit to do her make up and she helped me know what shades to use and where :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.abigailalicex.com
I will definitely give her a watch, thanks for the recommendation Abigail! Xx
DeleteLovely haul :) shame you didn't get on with the contour kit! I've been eyeing it up for the longest time but I'm still yet to be 100% convinced by it!
ReplyDeletehttp://claresloves.blogspot.com/
Thanks Clare! Yeah it's not as great as I had hoped it would be! Xx
DeleteAww such a shame you're not overly keen on the products. I do like the Clinique lipsticks but I agree £16 is a lot, I prefer MAC! xx
ReplyDeleteGlossy Boutique
MAC will be next to score out on the wishlist! Xx
DeleteShame about the palette but the lippy is super gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteThe Belle Narrative
It's a gorgeous colour! Xx
DeleteI adore Melon Pop, Beige Pop is an amazing nude if you ever feel like buying another one! I haven't tried de-slick but have all the others and All Nighter is the best!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely need to try All-Nighter to see how they compare! Xx
DeleteThanks for such honest reviews! Drugstore makeup is so good now so sometimes high end isn't worth it, unless you want a treat of course :) x
ReplyDeletePhoebe | Phoebe’s Diaries
Totally agree! i love drugstore makeup but it would be rude not to treat myself once in a while :P xx
DeleteAhhh,I've been wanting to get the urban decay setting spray because it sounds so good but I'm having second thoughts now, hm. Thank you for your honesty!
ReplyDeleteMay | THE MAYDEN | Bloglovin'
Thanks for reading! I think All-Nighter may be the way to go with UD sprays! Xx
DeleteGreat review. It's too bad you didn't like them as much

DeleteHello gorgeous! I love your review! Everyone's always telling good things about the UD Setting Spray, but this makes me reconsider whether I will buy it or not. And Melon Pop looks really beautiful, btw.

I'm glad you like it :) xx
DeleteIt's such a shame when you are excited for something and they turn out to be disappointing products. But try using the Anastasia kit as eyeshadows maybe, I'm never into contouring powder so even with the crazy hype I didn't ever feel like making the splurge. However that Clinique lipstick really looks gorgeous.
